Project Pan Goals for 2018

In my last post we counted 45 products that I finished or decluttered in the year 2017, leaving the last 43 items to be finished! As of now I have 43 items left to finish the Largest Project Pan Ever and I am hoping to finish at least all but the eyeshadows this year.

I want to take this last stretch of panning seriously and have some goals I would really like to accomplish. So this post will be more about my action plan and my monthly goals for this year. Continue reading “Project Pan Goals for 2018”

Largest Project Pan Ever – Full 2017 Results

Since October of 2016 I have been working on what I’ve called The Largest Project Pan Ever. This project pan consists of 143 items total and at the end of that year I finished 55 items. For this year I was hoping that I would knock out quite a bit of my full sized items and work on clearing out portions of a palette. I’ve gotten quite a bit finished but not nearly as much as 2016.

Instead of going through and listing every product I’ve finished, I’m going to give you the month by month numbers and include links to the posts with the product lists, otherwise this blog will be 10 pages long. At the bottom I’ll go into the items I’ve finished over the last few months of this year.

Number of Products finished in January – 7

Number of Products finished in February – 1

Number of Products finished in March – 4

Number of Products finished in April – 10

Number of Products finished in May – 3

Number of Products finished in June – 3

Number of Products finished in July – 2

Number of Products Finished in August – 2

Number of Products finished in September – 1

  • Declutters-

L.A. Colors Lipstick in Frozen Berry

I have actually had this lipstick since I moved into our current home about 4 years ago. It doesn’t apply the same as it used to, and I honestly don’t wear it much now anyway. The color itself was great and had a nice purple hue to it, but now with the application it is too sheer as I believe it is starting to separate.

Number of Products Finished in October – 3

  • Completed –

Degree Deoderant

This was the last of my main stash. It’s deoderant, it’s pretty much socially required to wear it.

Murad Essential C Eye Cream

I honestly hated this one when I received it just from the smell. I didn’t see a difference in use over the past year I have been using it daily. This is one skincare item I won’t repurchase.

  • Declutter –

Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Pink Please

There is actually quite a story behind this one. I got this lipstick at a Big Lots in my hometown about a year before my parent’s split up. It was my go to when I was in college, but I haven’t used it since. I don’t really grab for light pink lipsticks anymore. On top of that this color has since been discontinued from the ColorSensational line. Earlier this month I was in the mood for this shade and pulled it out from my makeup box. I rolled the lipstick up to check how much I had left, and saw the outside of the bullet covered in bumps. The smell hadn’t changed but I wasn’t going to use this lipstick with a chance of getting sick.

It took me a minute, but I came to a realization. I have kept this lipstick for almost a decade, I and still wasn’t halfway through it. I got this BEFORE I even met Sunshine. If I haven’t finished it by now then I probably never will. It was more than time to toss it out.

Number of Products Finished in November – 4

  • Completed:

Bath and Body Works Body Cream in Sweet Pea

I finished another one in July, and this is my last one in my stash. Now to go through the regular lotions!

SoftSoap Travel Size Body Wash in Pomegranate and Mango

It was body wash. My skin didn’t feel dry but I didn’t really enjoy the scent at all or the beads (bad for the environment you know.) Didn’t really stand out enough for me to want to repurchase.

  • Declutter:

Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield Top Coat/Base Coat Nail Polish

I’ve been using this every time I’ve painted my nails for a top coat. It has gotten to the point where it remains goopy not matter the amount of thinner I put in it, so it will look like I’ve made no progress. On top of that it has gotten to the point where it won’t dry completely no matter how long I’ve let it sit.

Ulta Makeup Setting Spray

Since I’ve bought it I’ve only used it a couple of times. I’ve come to realize that I don’t really use setting sprays and have no need for it. When I did use it, I hated how the mist was too large of drops and smelled of alcohol. Instead of setting my makeup it actually felt like it was drying my skin.

Number of Products Finished in December – 1

  • Completed:

OGX Vitamin E Penetrating Oil

I’ve been using this after every shower for the last couple of years and I really love it. It has been a helpful part of my hair care as my hair tends to get really dry from the hair dryer and the fact that I can go years between haircuts.

Total Products finished in 2017 – 41

In my books, that is a pretty great year for mostly doing full sized products!

Number of Products Left to finish in Project Pan – 43

Except for maybe 3 items these last ones are solely full sized products. Ultimately my goal is to finish off all of it except my palettes (I’ve got a lot of eyeshadow). If you’ve been following my Instagram then you’ve seen my updates on my palette that I am trying to pan, and as of right now I still have 43 shadows to go on it.

For the year of 2018, my plan is to approach this last stretch with a full no buy when it comes to makeup, and a replacement only when it comes to personal care items. With hope, I will have a more minimal collection when 2018 is over and I won’t have to use a tackle box as my storage container. My ultimate goal is still where all of my makeup is on the counter and not in a box.

Largest Project Pan Ever – Summer 2017 Update

If you’ve read my last post, it’s has been quite some time since I last posted and update for my project pan. Even though I haven’t posted any updates on here, it doesn’t mean I have stopped doing the project altogether. I have still been panning products and fortunately I have finished 10 in the last 4 months.

Items Finished In May:

Treseme Beautiful Volume Shampoo and Conditoner Sample packs (2 sets)

I did receive these through Influenster and it took me a while to actually get to them. The concept of doing you conditioner first sounds interesting but didn’t work for how I normally wash my hair. On the other hand, it did bring a lot of volume to my hair.

Bath & Body Works Body Wash in Sea Island Cotton

As always, this is my winter scent and my goal was to finish this product by the beginning of summer, and thankfully I was. I love this scent but I’m not going to purchase any more bath products for a while.

Suave Professionals Natural Infusion Anti-Breakage Shampoo (Travel Size)

With Suave shampoos, I never really see any difference in my hair. During this time I was still having a lot of fall-out and breakage in my hair but I feel that it had more to do with my health at the time rather than the shampoo.

Items Finished In June:

Maybelline Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Foundation in 112

This was a very light coverage foundation, which is nice for days where I want to cover up a little bit of my acne scarring but I am a full coverage kind of girl. I didn’t like that I had to apply so many layers to get the coverage I want that my skin looked cakey. Unfortunately this shade had too much yellow in it for me and did oxidize to be even more yellow, which is a recurring problem for me trying to find foundations, on top of the fact that it didn’t even last a few hours against my oily skin.

Be a Bombshell! Tinted Lip Balm in French Kiss

I had received this in an IPSY bag a long time ago, and I hate it so much. This shade is horrible for people with fair complexions like me as it is very very frosty but on top of that it feels waxy and leave a white residue on your lips that you have to wash off.

Village Naturals Aches & Pains Shower Wash

I really do love this brand, and it sucks that I can’t find it in my local Target anymore. This shower wash has a bit of a citrus/mint scent to it, and it also leave a slight cooling sensation on the skin. I used it the most when my joints started hurting from a physically exhausting day. I miss the scent and feel of it.

Items Finished In July:

Simple Moisturizer

So the big thing about this brand is that it meant to be sensitive skin friendly, but this was not. It smelled like mildewed clothing and actually had a burning sensation when I would apply it. I’ve essentially given up on this brand that I used to love after this.

Bath & Body Works Body Cream in Sweet Pea

The first to go down so far out of what’s left of my Sweet Pea B&BW stash. Still love it, and how the formula of the body cream feels as it absorbs into the skin.

Items Finished In August:

Pixi by Petra Mini Brow Trio

This was another item I received in an IPSY bag a long while ago. I had to find a variety of ways to use it since it was three different colors. I used the large taupe shade to set my eye primer and the medium brown shade for my crease, since they were both too light for my brows. The shade I did use for my brows just took forever to use. The powder itself applied fine and blended well.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Little Susie

I loved applying this extremely creamy lipstick. This is actually one of NYX’s more pigmented lipsticks and I have really enjoyed the application. This shade of hot pink worked well for my skin tone and surprised me with how much I liked it since I normally don’t go towards hot pink shades. I can’t wait to try out more colors after I finish the rest of my lipsticks.

So what have you finished panning over the summer? What are your goals for the rest of the year? At the moment I hope by the end of the year I can finish at least some skin care products .

Also, how do you feel about having a seasonal update rather than a monthly update? The post will be longer for a seasonal one but it will also give me more time to get products done. Please let me know what you think in the comments below.

See you soon!

How Project Pans have Changed my Spending

Right before I started my Largest Project Pan Ever in 2016, I was on the lookout for a new makeup case. I needed something large enough to hold my pallets but also compartmentalized enough to help keep everything organized. What I ended up with was a fishing tackle box. I’m not kidding.

When I brought it home I was excited to fill it up with all of my makeup items, and come to find out I had more than enough. I grabbed my box in the bathroom closet and off of the counter to start organizing. Doing this brought me to the realization that I had way too much stuff. I had samples from IPSY bags that I received almost a year before, and of course all the items I purchased at Ulta when I had a bad day.

This is where the idea for the Largest Project Pan Ever came from. I wrote down every single item that I had  and come up with 143 items in total. My goal being to finish them all, no time limit, and only purchasing if I need to replace something.

Since October, I have used a lot of the items in this project pan, and I have kept up pretty well with my low-buy, but I have seen a change in my spending when it comes to those items I’m starting to repurchase.

When I finish an item on the list, I decide if it is something that I know I would want to repurchase I would mark it and write it down on my repurchase list. Doing this helps a lot because if I know I already like something I am much more willing to repurchase just that item and not deviate.

With that I try to wait to order those items when they are on sale or have a free gift with purchase. Usually the gift is a sample of another item from that line. Also ordering it online helps because you get extra samples. I rely heavily on samples if I want to try a product out, that way I don’t have to purchase a full size and worry if I don’t like it. It saves a lot of decluttering in the long run.

This also helps with wanting to do my research before I try a new item. Having a sample or a travel sized version of the time does help, but I also check the reviews of an item or even beauty blogs. They often have visuals of the item in use as well as the results.

Speaking of visuals, having a way to completely visualize the amount of products I have helps because I know I don’t need more products. More than likely I have 5 similar eyeliners in black, I don’t need the newest liquid eyeliner from L’Oreal.

I cancelled my subscription to IPSY and limit my interaction on Influenster. I decided to do this so I don’t have to deal with a constant supply of makeup arriving at my doorstep. A good portion of the items on my list are from IPSY, and with some of them being full sized items,  it is going to be a while before I finish them all.

Finally, I’ve changed how I approach going to the beauty section of a store or a beauty store. I can now say that I am capable of going into Ulta just to look at stuff but to also not have the urge to go to Ulta on a bad day.

I’m not purchasing nearly at much as I used to and I’m currently experimenting will all the items I have. It’s more enjoyable this way because I don’t feel like I’m missing out on the new items. More than likely I already have something similar that I really enjoy. Hopefully, I can keep finishing items so my stash can be minimized and I can invest the money that I was spending on beauty items on things that I really need. Like getting an apartment.

For my other project panners out there, have you seen your spending change since you’ve started doing project pans? Are you willing to do one to see if it helps yours? Let me know in the comments below!

Largest Project Pan Ever Update 3 (April 2017)

It’s that time again! At least this time I have enough to make a full post update, unlike February. For this month I was able to cross 10 items off of my list and was able to finish all of my panning goals for April. If this is your first Project Pan post, check this out for my explanation of it.

If you’ve been watching my Instagram, then you already know what products that I’ve finished this month, but this post is more for giving a more in depth review of the products.

Largest Project Pan Ever 2017 Update 1

largest-project-pan_update

I can’t believe we are already a month into 2017! As always the days of winter go by faster than you can expect and I’m honestly unprepared for spring to get here.

As you saw in my post last month on my Project Panning Goals for 2017, I have about 88 products left to use in my Largest Project Pan Ever. Most of these products are full sized with a sample every now and then, so this part of the project pan is going to get harder.

So far this month, I have only used up/decluttered 10 products. Most of these products are things that I would repurchase again after the project is over, or will have to repurchase because they are the last of a certain type that I have. I hope that you project pans are going better than mine, and please leave me updates in the comments! Continue reading “Largest Project Pan Ever 2017 Update 1”

Project Pan Goals for 2017

largest-project-pan_update

Over the last 3 months, I’ve been working on the Largest Project Pan Ever, involving 143 products. By New Years Eve, I have finished 54 of the products in those three months! With most of those items being samples, I’m now working on primarily full sized products, and it’s pretty daunting.

There are some products right now that I’m not seeing much progress on no matter how often I use it, but I’m also having moments where I’m getting bored or frustrated. In those moments of weakness, I have broken the No Buy rule I placed at the beginning of this project pan. To the point where I’ve become Platinum level on my Ulta Rewards.

So for the next year I’m going to push harder on the products I have and try to become creative with them so I can still enjoy them.  To help me focus, I created a list of thing that I want to finish over this year as a part of this project pan.

A. Both of my Essie Nail Polishes

Honestly, I know everyone raves about this polish line but actually hate the formula. It doesn’t apply very well and chips so easily I can’t stand it. Fortunately because of that flaw, I would have to redo my nails every couple of days and get through them pretty quickly.

B. All of my single eye shadows

I have a variety of single shadows, some that are samples from pallets, but I also have two full pallets that I want to work through as well. I feel like it will be easier to go through my single shadows, but I also grab them quicker when I’m busy or am late for work.

C. All Face Masks

We all know I’m a sucker for skin care, especially when I’m stressed out. Because of that I have quite a few masks that are taking up a lot of space on my bathroom counter. Using them will probably be my favorite part of this project pan, but I’m glad I have enough to alternate, because daily masking is the one thing that can get me through my day sometimes.

D. Finish all Lip Balms.

Even though I only have 3 balms at the moment, I’ve recently received a homemade lip balm that works so much better than any of the others that I have. Plus it is insanely satisfying to see a finished lip balm. If I’ve learned anything from this past year is that I will forget to reapply if it isn’t near me, so I will always have it in my pocket or within reach.

E. Finish all Bath & Body Works body lotions.

I’ve used more of my body washes than I have my lotions in the past year, but I’ve gotten into the routine of using them every time I take a shower. Most of my lotions are going on two years old now and I would really like to use them while the scent is still good.

F. Finish my two foundations

If you saw my New Years Eve Instagram post, you know that I’m trying to step away from foundations. It is my least favorite part of doing my makeup and I haven’t been able to find the right foundation for me yet. Plus, my breakouts are not being helped by wearing it anyway. So when I finish these two foundations and my concealer, I’m going to try not wearing foundation for a while.

For this year I am going to try the no buy again. I have way to many bills at the moment for me to be spending money on makeup and skin care. I have everything I can need for now so I should be fine but it’s the stress buying that will be a problem for me. I feel like if I just find a different (read: healthier) way to handle my stress, it will be easier to do the no buy.

I will be keeping track of each product I use on my Instagram as well as trying to keep up with monthly updates on here.

Are you doing any project pans this year? Do you have it on social media or on your own blog? Leave me a link in the comments below.

Largest Project Pan Ever! Update 1

largest-project-pan_update

Last month I announced that I was going to do, what I believe to be, the largest project pan ever, which includes 143 items in total. No time limit, just pushing to get them done.

Now that a month has gone by, I have gone through almost all of my samples and have begun to make a dent into the full sized products that I have. Already, I am finding samples that I would purchase full sizes of and full sized items that I wouldn’t purchase again. But, if I’ve learned anything so far, it’s that it is a pain to find the right moisturizer.
